1. Central Park

Address: 405 Oakdale Street (Oakdale Street between East 4th and 5th Avenues.)

  • No Overnight Parking or Camping

Central Park in Windermere, FL

Central Park is one of Windermere’s hidden gems. It cannot be seen from Main Street, however it’s just a short distance off the road. This park has something for all ages. There’s a large playground for older kids as well as a smaller one for toddlers to explore. The covered pavilion provides the perfect space to host a birthday party or other life event.

If physical activities are what bring you to a particular park, Central Park is the park for you. There’s a walking trail as well as a newly added full-body circuit workout area. It’s fully equipped with different equipment for targeting different muscles and areas of the body. If you are a beginner, no worries, each station has detailed instructions!

An ultimate frisbee course provides fun for the whole family! Let your fun and competitive side out while the kids burn off their energy on the playground.

2. Town Square Park

Address: The Town Square Park is so awesome that it does not have a simple address. It is actually a whole area. It is located and includes a one-block area from Main Street to Forest Street between West 5th and 6th Avenues.

Park Amenities: With a park being so big that it takes up an entire town block, you can absolutely expect it to have some great amenities. Town Square Park is home to many of Windermere’s community buildings and memorials.

  • Town Hall – Windermere’s Town Hall was previously known as the old Windermere Women’s Club. It is a historic site in Windermere. In fact, on June 3, 1994 it was added to the US national register of historic places.Today, Town Hall is primarily used as an event venue. The town of Windermere uses Town Hall for town meetings and functions. The town of Windermere sponsored events take precedence, however, the public can also rent out the space. One perk to being a resident is, the very low resident rate for renting the space. It’s almost half of what it cost non-residents to rent. To reserve Town Hall, a non-refundable deposit of $250 is required along with a completed rental agreement. There is also a rental fee in addition to the deposit.   • The Franklin W. Chase Memorial Library – All of the buildings in downtown Windermere have their own unique Florida charm. This Orange County Public Library is no exception with its location in a small “Florida Cracker” style building. It started out as a town library and then in August 1991, it became a branch of the Orange County Library System. It’s open Monday through Saturday 10 AM to 6 PM. They offer various programs for both children and adults.

  • 9/11 Memorial –This memorial was dedicated in 2010. It was created as part of a 15-year-old’s Eagle Scouts project. Many local businesses and residents donated to ensure the memorial was a success. It honors all of the victims of the September 11th attack on the World Trade Center, flight 93, and the Pentagon. It’s located behind Windermere Town Hall and next to The Windermere Library.
  • Windermere Veteran’s Memorial – This memorial is dedicated to honor the Veterans of Windermere.
  • Historic Cal Palmer Building – This building is also known as Finders Keepers and is another historic site in Windermere Florida. It was added to the US national register of historic places on November 29, 1995.

Town Square Park in Windermere, FL

Town Square Park is a very big part of Windermere, Florida. It’s literally located in Windermere‘s town square as the name suggests. It’s where many of the town’s events start or take place. There are community buildings as well as spaces available for public use. It’s no wonder with a park like this that the community of Windermere, Florida is so connected.

3. Fernwood Park

Address: 232 W 7th Avenue (along the Lake Butler shoreline, with the entrance on West 7th Avenue and Butler Street.)

Park Amenities: 

  • Boat Ramp (resident use only)
  • Dock
  • Benches
  • Parking (vehicles only, no trailers)

Park Rules:

  • Park Hours – every day from dawn to dusk
  • No Glass Containers
  • No Littering
  • Noise Ordinance Enforced
  • No Overnight Parking or Camping
  • Pets Must Be On a Leash
  • No Alchohol
  • Motorized Vehicles are Only Allowed in Designated Areas
  • Boat Ramp is for Resident Use Only
  • Lock Ramp Gate After Use

The lake views from the Lake Butler shoreline are breathtaking. There’s a park bench for sitting and simply enjoying the natural beauty Florida has to offer. Or take a stroll out on the pier an gaze into the shimmering lake. Fernwood Park is perfect for slowing down and enjoying the beautiful outdoors.

Bird Island (a popular local hot spot for boaters) is visible from here as well. In fact if that’s your boating destination this is the perfect ramp to use. Just keep in mind you must be a resident to use the boat ramp.

4. The Windermere Recreation Center aka Butler Bay

Address: 11465 Park Avenue

Park Amenities: 

  • 3 Resident-only Tennis Courts – Another perk of being a Windermere resident! These tennis courts are perfect for a friendly little competition. To obtain access to the courts, click here to contact Lilian Colli, she will be able to set you up with keys.
  • 2 Pavilions – These pavilions have the option to be rented for events. Click here to contact Diane Edwards in regards to renting them. Please contact 30+ days in advance.
  • BBQ Grills
  • Volleyball Court
  • Fishing Pier and Boardwalk

  • Public Restrooms
  • Public Parking

If you are looking for a great fishing pier, head on over to this park. There’s even a little foot bridge that you can use to walk to a little island. The Windermere Recreation Center park is another great place to host fun events like birthday parties and BBQs!

5. Johnson Park

Address: Along the Lake Bessie lakefront on East 6th Avenue between Lee and Lake Streets

There are no official rules for this park as well as no amenities. Not even parking!

While Johnson Park is an official Windermere park, it is very small and only has one park bench. The park is mostly used for storm water retention. However, we included it on the list because it is indeed a park and does make a beautiful area for a quiet picnic (as long as it’s dry)!

If you’re having family photos taken this is a great place to add to your list of photo spots. Due to the fact it’s small and unpopular, it is generally uncrowded, providing some stunning photo ops!
