In addition to this list of the lakes there are also 32 canal ways that also make up these waterways. The Butler Chain of Lakes was the first in the state of Florida to receive from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection the designation of the of Outstanding Florida waters. As the first lake system in Florida to receive this, the lake had to qualify based on water quality and wildlife habitat.
