April 3, 2019Winter Garden Approved For $1.8M Road Improvement Project
Driving through Winter Garden can be scenic and relaxing; winding you through tree-lined neighborhoods, past popular community parks and around beautiful lakes and historic architecture. But driving through Winter Garden can also be bumpy, confusing and ever-changing. Thankfully, the city has recently been approved for a $1.8 million dollar road improvement project that will make driving though Winter Garden smoother and more convenient. Here’s what we know:
Back in late January, the city was approved for a city-wide street resurfacing project, and roads in Winter Garden started seeing changes last week. There will be 14 projects altogether, dedicated to resurfacing and paving sections of road in some of the city’s highest traffic areas, including:
- Story Road
- Avalon Road
- Stoneybrook Parkway
- Plant Street
- Palmetto Street
- East Cypress Street
- Florida Avenue
- Newell Street
- South Lakeview Avenue
- Division Street and
- North Highland Avenue
All roads will remain open for the duration of this project, scheduled to end towards the end of March, but drivers may notice temporary lane closures.
Tentative Road Improvement Schedule
According to an article written in The Orange Observer, the tentative schedule for which roads will be seeing improvements and when is as follows:
Feb. 18
- West Plant Street (Park to 550’ West)
- Newell Street (Dillard St. to North Boyd St.) – Paving on Newell will be limited to the hours 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to minimize conflict with school-related traffic.
- South Lakeview Avenue (Smith St to Maple St.)
- Division Street (Lakeview Ave. to Bradford Park)
- North Highland Avenue (Newell St. to Tilden Road)
March 18 to March 22
- Story Road (Park St. to West Plant St.)
- West Plant (Lakeview Ave. to Avalon Road)
- Avalon Road (West Colonial Ave. to Plant St.)
- (Paving to be done the week of Spring Break in order to minimize conflict with school-related traffic)
These road improvements will make getting in and out of Downtown Winter Garden much easier, and will make for a smoother ride for residents heading in and out of neighborhoods such as Oxford Chase off of Avalon Road and Heritage at Plant Street.
