On the Scene: Downtown Clermont Revitalization

There’s just something special about a charming downtown area. It’s a place sustained by local restaurants and retail shops. Small business owners cheer each other on, and residents support them. Community over competition is the main focus. Clermont, Florida is a perfect example of what a downtown area should be, as they breathe life back into downtown Clermont, and it’s looking great!

Downtown Clermont Revitalization!

Downtown Clermont gets a breath of fresh air with a new look! It’s been many years since downtown Clermont was booming with local businesses and residents strolling the streets. However, over the past couple of years, more locals are opening up shops in the downtown district. This is all thanks to the city’s efforts in revitalizing the downtown area.

While the streets are being restored, most of the original buildings are being preserved with some tinder love and care. With a fresh coat of paint on some and some restoration on others, keeping the original buildings intact set the whole vibe for downtown Clermont.

A Community that Supports Local Small Businesses

Downtown Clermont is now a hot spot for Clermont locals to open unique eateries and shops. Among all of the businesses, two market-type buildings have been designed for multiple businesses to set up booths. This is awesome because building rent can be too high for many small businesses to afford on their own. However, a booth rental is feasible. Allowing them to share their talents and gifts with the world when they may not have been able to for the sole reason of not being able to afford a full-sized building all on their own.

Old

Monroe Street

Monroe Street is the “main” street running through the downtown Clermont area. It has been a huge focus of the revitalization project. Many of the old buildings have received facelifts creating a fresh curb appeal while keeping their connection to the original buildings.

Some of the businesses you’ll find on Monroe are:

Clermont Exchange

The

This is one of the markets we mentioned above (the other one is directly across the street!) The Clermont Exchange is a rustic open space building with tall ceilings and exposed beams. Inside there are individual kiosks with local shops that occupy them. Some of the shops you’ll find inside are:

Teamont

  • Teamont Boba– A refreshing boba tea shop. Your tastebuds are in for a treat here, they have dozens of flavors to mix and match. Add some boba or popping pears, the possibilities are endless and never boring.
  • Rollin’ with the Homies – This trendy little pop-up restaurant puts a twist on a favorite…. the eggroll! They take favorites from various cuisines like BBQ, Mexican, American and roll them up into an eggroll. This place is a must-try!
Yummi’s Frozen Yogurt and Cafe

Yummi’s is a one-stop shop for all your frozen favorites! They have frozen yogurt and ice cream. Their toppings bar is one of the biggest we’ve ever seen. They even have baked goods if that’s more what your sweet tooth craves. This is the perfect place to visit with family and friends.

The Southern on 8th

As the name suggests, The Southern on 8th restaurant is on 8th street. But it is a corner location and its other section is on Monroe. The restaurant’s hospitality and menu are southern comforts at their finest. Head on over if you find yourself craving fried green tomatoes, deviled eggs, shrimp and grits, fried chicken, or any other southern fixin’.

Southern

Minneola Ave

Minneola Ave runs parallel to Monroe St. It too is getting a facelift to freshen up its look. On the same note, this street also has some cool local businesses filling up the buildings.

Some of the businesses you’ll find on Minneola Ave are:

Suncreek Brewery

“The spacious brewery is located in historic downtown Clermont. It’s right off of Minneola Ave, minutes from the lake and some of Clermont’s most popular boutiques. The expansive taproom is complete with two sections for dining, featuring about 15 low-top tables, a handful of high-top tables, and ample seating at both the bar. The exposed concrete walls and open ceiling give the entire place an industrial feel, while the wood-paneled walls and indoor picnic tables make it feel warm and inviting.” – Hangout Like a Local at Suncreek Brewery in Clermont by the Erica Diaz Team
