Popular 2021 Home Decor Trends

Popular 2021 Home Decor Trends

While scrolling through Pinterest, it’s clear some popular 2021 home decor trends are making their appearance this year! This does not come as a surprise after 2020. Whether it’s the extra time spent at home or the desire to forget 2020 and freshen things up a bit, it’s no wonder people everywhere are updating their home decor in 2021!

Some hot new home decor trends are popping up for 2021, and we love them! So, why not join in and spruce up your home too? The best part is that most trends can easily be DIY! Unless of course hiring the work out is more your style, we get that too! Whatever method you choose, we are excited to share our list of 2021 home decor trends that the Erica Diaz Team predicts will be coming to a home near you. Better yet, maybe even your home!

Blast from the Past

Many of the 2021 home decor trends seem like we’ve seen them before, not recently. It’s almost as if trend setters chose their favorite elements from past trends and have creatively incorporated them into today’s most loved styles—basically, modern twists on past styles!

Colorful Kitchens

Move over white kitchen trends because color is about to change things up! Colorful decor has been making its way into more and more homes, and now it’s found its way into the kitchen. It’s making its mark in both subtle and bold ways, appearing on backsplashes and even cabinets. Either way, explosions of colors are happening in kitchens, and IT LOOKS AMAZING!

A practical way to incorporate color into your kitchen without a total renovation is to add little pops of color at first. Create a color palette that complements your kitchen and home decor, then add a few accent pieces. Or, if you’re feeling brave, go bold by painting the kitchen island a different color than the rest of the cabinets.

Living Plants

Being a plant parent is definitely all the rage now, which translates into homes with an array of plants sprinkled throughout the decor. And how refreshing is it that we are moving away from fake pants and inviting gorgeous, real plants into our homes?

It seems as though many of us found our green thumbs in 2020. Luckily, this newly found talent is a good one. House plants do an excellent job at bringing a space to life! It is a simple way to add an enjoyable and fresh aspect to any home decor style. Anything goes with plants, too. Pick from plants, flowers, moss, small trees, herbs, and more. If they thrive indoors, they are 100% acceptable for adding color and dimension to any space. Not to mention, the variety of pots for planting is on-trend.

Freestanding Tubs

Remember the old claw-foot freestanding tubs? Well, they are making a comeback, and they are stunning! Not all freestanding tubs being put into luxury master bathrooms look like the traditional claw-foot tubs. Many have taken a modern approach to the design, resulting in a sleek look. With so many varieties of freestanding tub designs today, they make a perfect addition to any style home, be it modern, farmhouse, or anything in between.

Botanical Patterns

From wallpaper to accent pieces like throws, botanical patterns are becoming increasingly popular in 2021 home decor trends. Gone is the overly floral vibe of the floral pattern. Today, women and men are falling in love with a tasteful botanical pattern. These patterns are being incorporated into rooms throughout the house. From bathrooms to master bedrooms, botanical patterns are used to create statement pieces that are inviting yet bold.

Earth Tones, Including Beige

A warmer color palette is taking over the interior design world in 2021! The colors we once spent hours painting over a few years ago are back, and they are all the rave. Yes, we are talking about earthy tones—even beige. Before you second-guess our prediction on these colors making a comeback, we must say they are doing it in a different way.

Earth tones are popping up everywhere, not just on walls. While beige is coming back, it’s making a tasteful appearance. It’s pretty lovey when strategically blended with other earth tones and warm colors. This trend does not have to take over your walls because it can be incorporated through furniture and decorations. And if you’re not ready to go full beige, check out some greige, it’s gorgeous too!

All Over Wallpaper

It’s time to go big or home in the wallpaper world this year! While wallpaper has slowly increased in popularity over the past few years, this year, it’s coming in bolder than ever. Instead of an accent wall here and there, people are wallpapering entire rooms! Don’t turn your nose up too soon at this 2021 home decor trend; it actually looks amazing in just the right room.

While not every room looks amazing and fully wallpapered, some rooms do. For example, powder rooms are becoming a huge statement room trend, and what is the perfect way to make a statement other than a fully wallpapered powder room? Nurseries are also lovely when just the suitable wallpaper is used throughout the room.

Repurposed Furniture

Out with the old and in with the new! Or, in this case, with the newly repurposed. Repurposing furniture is on firefight now. People are even creating businesses to give old furniture a makeover to match the updated style in people’s homes. This is also one of the projects that can be done DIY. There are a million YouTube videos out there that will walk you through the process step by step.

So, if you’ve considered throwing out a piece of furniture, it can easily be redone. Family heirlooms are another popular type of furniture that is being refinished to match the current style of homes. Think outside the box with this, too. Different pieces of furniture are being used for different purposes as well. Take bulky old dressers—they are given new life as stunning entertainment centers!

Floating Vanities

Floating vanities are becoming increasingly popular because they add a modern twist to a classic counter. These wall-mounted fixtures make your bathroom look unique and current, perfect for those who want to shake things up without being extravagant.

2021 Interior Design Styles

While the trends mentioned above are specific elements being incorporated into homes, there are also complete style trends. These complete interior design style trends encompass the overall vibe and aesthetics of the entire home.

Coastal Farmhouse

We love the Coastal Farmhouse look! It’s charming, welcoming, and timeless. This style typically includes light wood furniture, neutral paint, prints, patterns, and subtle pops of color.

English Country

The country chic design trend might be the most popular of our time. It is one of the best ways to make a house feel like home, with a lot of warmth and traditional elements. However, we have to admit that it is a little overdone and might look a bit dated. If you love the classic country chic look but want to change things up a bit, you will love the English Country trend!

English Country is Country Chic’s posh cousin with muted, warm colors and farmhouse elements. It mixes floral patterns with plaid and stripes and traditional furniture with eccentric pieces, creating a warm, homey, trendy environment! What’s not to love?

Maximalist Minimalism

This interior design trend combines two opposites: maximalism and minimalism. Maximalism is all over the top, and minimalism is on the other end of the spectrum. Minimalist and maximalist elements mixed together are a sight to see, and it might seem counterintuitive, but this trend makes for some exciting homes.

Scandinavian Modern

This interior design trend is more minimalist, with contrasting neutral colors, wood, and textiles. It has been around since the 1950s. A home with modern Scandinavian elements presents a classic, timeless look without looking dated.

Scandinavian Modern is a great way to have your home looking current without decor that is too out there! It is the right choice for those who want their decor to last years without feeling like they are living in the past.
